why a top 8 and not a follower count
got asked why cybersoda has a top 8 instead of just a follow button and a number. a follower count is a scoreboard. it turns people into a stat you're trying to grow. a top 8 is a decision. you're picking eight (or fewer, no one's counting) people and telling the internet "these are my people." it's petty and personal in the best way, exactly like it was the first time around, and everyone who had one remembers agonizing over the order. that's kind of the whole design philosophy here. every feature should feel like something a person did on purpose, not something an algorithm optimized for engagement. guestbooks instead of a DM count. a shoutbox instead of a trending tab. webrings instead of a "people you may know" carousel that's somehow always wrong. anyway. go set your top 8. it's harder than it sounds.
