Bakery Brainstorming

#indie-web#webcrafting#coding#bbs

Although my personal website has both a blog and a microblog, I still hesitate to post there if I don't feel like I have something 'substantial' enough to say. More of a mindset issue than anything, but for now I think I will try and make use of the gajillions of indie websites I have joined (or well, some of them) for less 'polished' thoughts. I'm still experimenting with which ones I like best, but for the time being I shall elect CYBERSODA as my 'casual' blog. With that said, here is my personal website's BBS: https://breadavota.cafe/bakery/ I initially implemented it so I could have a microblog that I could post to any time without needing to write a full HTML post on a computer (but, as I've mentioned, I hesitate to post 'casual' things there too often, lol). Since then, it has grown a lot with a lot of features I personally find interesting (not obvious at first, but you can find them by clicking the pagedoll on the bottom left). I wanted to quickly compile a list of future ideas I want to implement. It's not so much a roadmap as I haven't committed to all these ideas, but I figured having it out there somewhere would be useful. ☆ User pages - I don't think I will implement the ability for users to customise their actual profile with their own HTML/CSS (mostly because it's a pain in the arse, and I am very fond of the layout the Bakery currently has, I reuse it like a million times for other pages). However, an alternative I've considered is letting users upload /a/ webpage, that can be opened through interacting with the pagedoll. It will appear as a modal window on the page, so it will function more as a subpage for people to put whatever they want in, separate from their actual Bakery feed. ☆ 'High Judge Theatre' - I have already started this technically and I am just not motivated to keep working on it. It's a text-based roleplaying game, technically, except it's really more like a distinct feed where users post as their Judge Original Character Do Not Steal. I've put it off as I don't expect it will get much use and is more of a 'gimmick' than anything. ☆ Pagedoll chat - What it says on the tin. I imagine this will be quite limited as the conversations will be pre-written and the user will likely exhaust them eventually, but it still sounds like a nice idea to work on once I have the time to actually write said dialogue. ☆ Virtual pet-like features - I haven't worked these out completely yet, but it would involve interacting with the pagedoll still. Perhaps I could just make it similar to the existing Fidough game on my website where you can feed/play/bathe it to keep its stats up. This will be an optional gimmick and there won't really be any consequences for leaving your pagedoll at 0%, but I'd write some flavour text for the interactions that might share some trivia about the characters. ☆ Virtual shop - Right now, my website has a 'Clap' feature that lets users 'clap' once a day (inspired by FC2 Clap). While I do log how many claps a user does, I never decided on what to do with this. I've entertained the idea of it being a virtual currency of some sort but I have no idea what would be for 'sale'. I might integrate this with the pet idea above where the users can buy food/toys/etc.? A better idea is a virtual house where users can buy furniture in, and that house can be where their pagedoll lives, but this would require me to draw a shit ton of new art, so it's not a priority right now. ☆ Pagedoll generator - Similar to the shop+home idea, this would require me to draw a ton of assets, so not a priority right now. By 'generator' I mean something like a Picrew or dress-up game where users can design their own pagedoll. Alternatively, I might just let users upload a custom image for their pagedolls. ☆ Pagedoll evolution - Likely to be integrated with the virtual pet idea and the clap-as-currency idea above somehow. Other users can interact with your pagedoll and receiving enough interactions will make it 'evolve' into a different appearance. Those are my main ideas so far. Seems obvious that I used to play a lot of virtual pet websites... lol
